Ferro alloys are specialised alloys that involve Iron (Fe) as the base material to which one or more compounds are added with an aim of manufacturing materials that are vital in processing and purifying steel and other metallic products. These alloys are generally employed to add certain character into the steel or iron for example increased toughness, high levels of hardness, high resistance to rusting and withstand high temperatures. Ferro alloys are mainly applied in steel making in the aim of increasing the strength, hardness and corrosion characteristics. They are also important in purification of steel which is done to get rid of defects such as impurities that may be present in the steel.
